This is the image for the news article titled Math Bursary Program Continues For Teachers(January 14, 2019) On December 6, 2016, the Honourable David Eggen, Minister of Education, announced an investment of $1 million for creation of a Math Bursary Program to assist current and future teachers in strengthening their knowledge, skill and confidence in teaching mathematics. Since the program was implemented in spring 2017, we have pre approved more than 300 applications for funding.

The Math Bursary Program is continuing, and teachers are invited to apply for this exciting opportunity. Teachers who took part in the Math Bursary Program in 2017/18 reported that it increased their confidence in teaching math and that they were able to learn and implement effective practices in their classrooms. This bursary is an excellent opportunity for teachers who are currently teaching math and for other teachers with an interest in math education.

Each applicant is eligible for $2,000 in funding ($1,000 per course, for a maximum of two courses) following the successful completion of an eligible math pedagogy course completed at an Alberta post-secondary institution. Application instructions and a list of bursary-eligible courses are available on our website. Upcoming application deadlines are as follows:
winter 2019 deadline: January 30, 2019;
spring 2019 deadline: May 30, 2019; and
summer 2019 deadline: July 30, 2019.
