Emergency Protocol Parent Summary

Monday, January 21, 2019:

10:30am: Starting at 10:30am today our school administrators called a hold and secure, as a preventative measure, because circumstances with one of our families caused staff and Medicine Hat Police to be concerned. We want families to know that school is functioning normally; students and staff are safe and secure. Medicine Hat Police are present as a precaution only. The school will remain in hold and secure for the remainder of the day, or until the concern has been addressed. #medhat #MHPSDfamily

Hold and Secure is used when there is a threat or potential threat of violence OUTSIDE the school.

This includes events such as criminal activity, police pursuits, or a dangerous offender in the area (not in the school).

  • All exterior doors and windows are locked.
  • No outsider access into the building while protocol is in effect.
  • If the Hold and Secure extends past dismissal times, doors will remain locked and families will be provided dismissal information.
  • Students will not be released until the hold and secure is over.

12:06pm Update

We appreciate your patience and understanding. The hold and secure has been lifted and the school is operating as normal.

If families have any questions or concerns about the hold and secure today please connect with the school. We ask that families take a moment to review the Emergency Protocols Parent Summary below to help understand the emergency preparedness measures we have in place in the event that something similar happens again.
