Communication | Echo Dale Incident
We are writing to share some very difficult news. Further to our message from yesterday evening, the student involved in the incident at Echo Dale has passed away.
We know this information is hard to hear. This is a tremendous loss for the student’s family, our school, and our broader community. Our thoughts are with the student’s family and friends, and with all those who are feeling the impact of this loss.
We recognize that news like this can be difficult to process, and we encourage you to reach out if you or your child need support. If your child wants to talk, listening calmly and answering questions in simple, truthful ways can help. Let them know they are safe, supported, and not alone.
Support is available. Our Family School Liaison Workers (FSLWs) are able to connect with students and families who may need someone to talk to or help accessing further services. If you have concerns about your child, please reach out to their school so we can help connect you to appropriate supports.

Children may respond in different ways depending on their age, experiences, and personality. You might notice changes in mood, questions about what happened, or a need for extra reassurance. There is no “right” way to react, and it’s important to create space for open, honest conversation. Moments like this can be felt across a school community, even by those who may not have known the student personally.
Once again we want to acknowledge the care and urgency shown by first responders, park staff, school staff, parents, and community members, who worked together to act quickly to support response efforts. This reflects the strength and compassion of our broader community, we are grateful for the care and professionalism shown by all involved.
As a division, we remain focused on caring for one another. We will continue to support students and families in the days ahead while holding the student’s loved ones in our thoughts.
